Comparing Traditional Video Editing With Video Editing Software
For people who record home movies - that includes almost every one of us, actually - video editing software is really quite a boon. Traditional Video Editing With Only A Camcorder And A VHS Player
Before the video editing software came into the market, we had only a camcorder and a VHS to record and playback our videos. The process was quite cumbersome since the editing was mostly done in a manual manner. The following steps were adopted:-
1. The camcorder was first plugged to the AV jack of the VHS player and the master recorded tape was inserted into the camcorder and played from start to finish.
2. Using the timer on the camcorder, the time between which editing was needed were written down on a piece of paper. There would be several such entries depending on the amount of footage required to be deleted. 3. Then another tape was put into the VHS player and was rewound completely. This was applicable to a new VHS tape. If recording was to be done on a tape that wasn't blank, then the tape was rewound up to the point from which the recording was to be begun. 4. The next step was to play the camcorder again. The record/pause button on the VHS player containing the tape to be recorded was also pressed simultaneously. 5. A careful watch was kept on the camcorder tape's timer as it played. When the time for a deletion was reached, the VHS tape was paused. After that portion was run through, the VHS recording was resumed. 6. This was done for the whole length of the camcorder tape. Modern Video Editing With Video Editing Software
Today, thankfully, we have video editing software to edit our homemade videos. Here, we use a computer and a camcorder or a digital camera to do the editing process. The recorded video is captured onto the software. There is no need to play the video. That is because the whole captured video can be observed on a slider, which contains a time calibration. Simply, the portions of the needed video are clipped using the edit function and then stocked into another file. As a result, only the necessary portions are added to the final edited file. In addition, the video can be embellished with graphics, audio, transition effects, subtitles and several other interesting features. A Comparison
The following points can be used to distinguish between the two methods of video editing:- 1. In traditional video editing, the principle was to chop off the unneeded portions, while using software, we add the needed portions. Traditional video editing is a method of deletion, while software editing is a method of addition. 2. Pressing the pause and record button on the VHS player can cause unnecessary footage to come in, howsoever careful a person is. However, software sliders can give precise edits. 3. The time required for software video editing is quite short, because there is no need to play the whole video. 4. Software video editing allows for a large number of graphics and other effects to be added onto the final edited video.
