Different Types Of Professional Movie Editing Careers
Though professional movie editing is generally used as a sweeping term, what a person interested in this field must know is that there are actually different types of activities involved in film editing. In small scale filmmaking, all these film editing techniques are carried out by a single person, but in professional movie editing, separate professionals carry out the different aspects of film editing. Let us see what these different professional movie editing techniques are:-
Film and Video Editing
The basic film editing technique refers to the trimming of the raw footage and bringing it into a crisper and more watchable form. Their main job is to render an esthetic appeal to bulk film and video footage that is collected when the shooting is done. They must have a sense of judgment to decide what scenes to retain and what to omit, and fairly assess the length of the film that would do proper justice to the video that has been shot. A film and video editor will also have to use special software applications to add audio and visual effects into the edited copy, and will have to watch and re-watch the film a number of times till everything seems to be blended seamlessly into one running film or video.
Music Editing Music editing is an important part of the professional film editing techniques. Music can uplift the whole final video, but if it is inserted shoddily, the same music can become jarring. The job of the music editor is to select proper places and lengths within the video where the music is to be inserted and also to select the right kind of music to be inserted from a music bank. Quite often, the music editors will work before the music composers, and will define lengths within the edited film wherein they can compose and insert their composed music scores later on. Audio Editing Audio editing is quite similar to music editing, with the only difference that in audio editing, instead of music, audio clips are inserted. Audio is composed in different forms, and then inserted into the editor-defined portions of the movie. An example is editing fight and action sequences in the movies, where audio or sound editors will be required to fill in the requisite audio clips. These audio inputs could be either taken from a stored audio bank, or specially composed by a sound composer. Modern film editing software applications consist of the different techniques that are needed for professional movie editing. These contain film editing techniques for editing the video footage, including sound and video, and even subtitles and special effects.
